How to dress, “girly” (when you’re not really all that, “girly”)

Here’s a blog post for those of you who are – like myself – stuck in-between loving summer and the weather it brings, but you can’t actually dress for it because your wardrobe is 75% men’s t-shirts. Conveniently, you also hate the idea of wearing a floral, girly and short skirt because you’re not really all that, “girly”.

Nor do you want to wear some denim hot pants because… well, we are no longer in year 7 and we no longer want our bumcheeks hanging out of them. So, where are we left now? Probably wearing denim jeans and a simple crop top, sweating like mad in this heatwave we now call “summer”. Sounds about right to me.

I wanted to find an outfit, which was considered feminine, summery yet not too “girly”. I’m only attracted to bold, colourful and expressive florals for festival-wear, where the clothing is a tad more retro and fun, compared to my day-to-day wardrobe.

An alternative which I found is wearing leopard print; this is still a fun print but in my opinion, it emits less femininity and has more wearability. I particularly like this maxi skirt because the dark red and black also tone down the daintiness of the outfit.

I paired this fit with a plain white, ribbed crop top and my Nike Air Zoom Spiridons (because what would an outfit of mine be without a pair of trainers anyway?)

Styling the Adidas I-5923 with The Sole Womens

Here’s my second collaboration with The Sole Womens: styling the new Adidas I-5923 with plenty of Adidas clothing too. These comfy kicks come in plenty of colours, but we shot and styled the pastel bunch – pink, yellow and blue!

These trainers feel like you’re wearing clouds on your feet and I highly recommend copping a pair. They’re breathable, flexible and you can wear them both in the gym or on the streets. You choose!

Styling the Nike M2K Tekno’s with The Sole Womens

I’m so excited to write about my collaboration with The Sole Women’s; a social media platform which finds the best trainer releases online and shows you where to buy them. They originated from The Sole Supplier – the hugely popular men’s version of The Sole Women’s.

When they asked me if I wanted to do a shoot with them, showcasing both my style and their’s to create a Style Guide for the launch of their new site, I couldn’t wait. It was a sick chance, for myself, to connect with a platform I had followed for a long time (not to mention create some new and exciting content – something I love to do!)

I was asked to bring a few of my own clothing items to the shoot, which demonstrated my own style. These pieces would be mixed with the team’s take on how best to style the trainers which we were creating a style guide for – The Nike M2K Tekno’s in Black.

If you wanna see how we styled the Nike M2K’s and read my interview, finding out a bit about my experience on blogging, being a fashion student and owning a small business, please check out the link below!

The Prawn Shop

I’ve teamed up with The Prawn Shop to showcase just one of the many sick designs which this booming independent business, from Leeds, has to offer!

I’m wearing the, “Are You Okay?” tee, hand-drawn by the brand owner herself; all of Georgia’s unique designs explore important current social issues, such as body diversity, equality, feminism and consent. These are illustrated through the exciting use of bright, bold and colourful graphic design.

A statement t-shirt can be worn with any pair of bottoms and trainers, for a casual day-time look. I’ve paired mine up with some red Kappa trackies and my white velcro Stan Smiths!

Coat & Jacket Wishlist

Instagram: emitalaga

Depop: etalaga (handmade garms)

I’ve found so many coats and jackets in the past few months, since Winter started, which I’ve wanted to buy! However, I’ve not exactly had sufficient funds to fulfil my needs and wants… (by which I mean, a maxed-out student overdraft does not equate to any funds at all really).

From this post you’ll be able to gather that I love faux fur/teddy bear fabric coats and jackets. They make any outfit look cool and to be honest, if you have a great coat on it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing underneath. Your coat is the outfit – a great statement piece.

Anyway, a girl can dream! Here’s the list you probably want to see:

And last but not least, the famous faux fur blue coat from H&M which is sold out and is now being sold for £150+ on eBay!? RRP £65-75 I think. I’m so in love 😦 Screen Shot 2018-01-06 at 15.11.23

Grey Camo

Repping some grey camo in the basement. Co-ord is from Missguided but sold out in most sizes a lot of the time. I reeeeally liked the grey and red so if you can get your hands on it – do!

Exploring The Saatchi Gallery in my 80s Red Bomber

This faux leather red bomber is soo dank. I’m loving the 80s vibe the jacket emits, paired with the retro, oversized black oval sunglasses. Both items from ASOS by the way! I matched this piece with an all black outfit because, as you can probably tell, I love a pop of colour. This outfit works particularly well – in my opinion – because the red jacket really appears to be the statement piece in this fit. The colour appears more vibrant amongst the black, but white would work well too.

I got a size 8 because, although the bomber is oversized anyway, I wanted it particularly big! Jess Woodley is a huge style inspiration of mine, and she pulls off a huge vintage black leather bomber so well.
